The detail and clarity of images on a 4K display would be really beneficial for photo editing

Ash Martin uses his Mac for photography and more. “I primarily use my Macs for photo editing and business purposes, as well as everyday things such as keeping my iTunes library up to date,” he says. “My MacBook Pro is used when travelling. It allows me to work efficiently and keep up to date with my editing, as well as showing clients work on the job.”

He also has a desktop Mac. “I spend most of my time on my iMac. I love the speed of the computer, and the large, high-resolution screen is fantastic for retouching in Photoshop. I also think having a work area with a desktop computer is great – it eliminates distractions.”

His glass-topped desk looks impressive, but unfortunately, it’s prone to picking up fingerprints. “It’s a nightmare,” he complains. “I’m constantly attacking it with glass cleaner. It’s a great desk, though. Sometimes I work on both computers at the same time, and there’s still plenty of room.”

He’s already a fan of the next generation of Apple’s operating system. “I’m currently working off the Yosemite beta on my iMac,” he told us. “I really like the redesign. It feels so much more contemporary. However, I will say that there aren’t many benefits to upgrading yet, since the main features such as Handoff and iCloud Drive aren’t offered in the current beta and these are the main features I’m looking forward to using.”

But what should Apple do next? “For me, the biggest feature I’d like to see introduced to iMacs would be a Retina or 4K display. The current screen is excellent, but the detail and clarity of images on a Retina or 4K display would be really beneficial for photo editing.”

So why a Mac and not a PC? “I use Macs because I substantially prefer the user interface. Macs are much simpler and easier to use than a PC. Also, device compatibility with your iPhone and iPad works so much better. I believe they’re more reliable than PCs, too. I’ve had my MacBook Pro for nearly five years, and not had a single issue with it.”

And his next Apple purchase? “Either a new MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch, or the iPhone 6. My current MacBook Pro struggles with editing tasks now, due to the old Core 2 Duo processor, so this would be a nice upgrade.”
