Why is my mouse pointer glowing?

Mac Format - - APPLE TALK -

Q When I connect my MacBook to an external monitor, I get a purple glow around the edge of the mouse pointer. I can move it back to the MacBook’s screen and it’s fine, but whenever it’s on the external monitor it has the glow. Jonti van der Hoorn

A I don’t have a solid solution for you, even though this bug has been known for almost eight months now. It can affect any external monitor, with both HDMI and Thunderbolt connections. Replacing cheap mini Display Port adaptor cables has helped in some cases. But the best workaround so far is to hit Cancel when the MacBook first wakes, and let it go back to sleep. The glow doesn’t seem to come back after that.

Can cheap DVI adapter cables be responsible for a glowing mouse pointer? The jury

is still out.
