Name that ambient noise

OS OS X 10.9 Requires 64-bit Mac, Sound input We loved our first experience of Shazam on iPhone: hear a song, tap a button and a few seconds later, get its title. Updates have added links to online services, lyrics, videos, artist info and more.
What happened with the Mac release? It’s awful. Instead of activating on demand, it lurks in the background and tries to log everything. On our test Macs, the app was slower than its iPhone sibling, and often failed to work at all.
Left for a while, though, it accrues a huge list – even when there’s no music about. With ambient noise, we still got a list of random tracks. These entries can’t be deleted.
Unlike on the iPhone, you get few extras – an iTunes link and social network sharing. For anything more, you click an entry and are hurled to Shazam’s website. Given what the iPhone app can pack into a tiny space, this is yet another disappointment. Craig Grannell
A substandard Mac version of a standout mobile app. Even though it’s free, we felt ripped off.
