What is it? In the words of Om Audio, this is “The world’s first levitating speaker”. A gently spinning, Bluetooth-connected speaker ‘ball’ hovers over a base station while playing music. It also packs a microphone, so you can use it to make conference calls while pretending to be in the near future. The ball doesn’t rely on the base station to do anything except hover, though – you can just grab it and use it as a portable speaker with 15 hours of battery life anywhere you like. When’s it due? December 2014 for early orders. Why are we excited? Er, hello? Mostly because it floats in mid-air. Heck, people who get in early can even get a disco ball version! If this doesn’t impress the visiting in-laws, nothing will.
