Turn an old iPhone or iPod touch into a home surveillance system
Setting up a home surveillance system can be an expensive affair, but a cunning alternative is to turn old iPhones and iPod touch devices into CCTV cameras. The iPhone is a terrific surveillance camera; it has a great lens and sensor, and networking built in.
There’s an app for everything, so you won’t be surprised to hear about a free app called AtHome Camera that will help you out. Although you might not want to leave your iPhone outside, AtHome Camera gives you the go-ahead to monitor what’s going on in different rooms around the house.
It even lets you listen in to what other people are saying, or you can talk to people remotely! Here we’ll use an iPhone as the camera, which we’ll view from an iPad, but of course you can use any compatible iOS device for either task. Lou Hattersley
