My MacBook Air’s camera is gone

Mac Format - - APPLETALK -

After upgrading to Mavericks, my camera has stopped working. On researching this there are loads of threads on forums, each with different solutions. I’ve tried them all to no avail. Is there FaceTime software I can download? Allison Dufosee FaceTime is included as part of Mavericks, but it doesn’t matter whether you use that or iChat or any other video chat application because the problem lies with the drivers for the iSight camera itself.

This bug surfaced with OS X 10.9.2 but was fixed in 10.9.3, so Software Update may solve your problem.

It’s caused by any application that uses a virtual display driver to provide virtual desktops or reflect your desktop to an external display. So far the problem apps that I’m aware of are AirDisplay, AirParrot, DisplayLink, iDisplay and Splashtop Streamer. Uninstalling these apps fixes the problem, but it isn’t always necessary. You can usually get away with just using the ‘sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions’ command in Terminal and then restarting.
