Wagner takes Coach seat
Apple’s longest-serving board member, Bill Campbell, has retired. Known as “The Coach” (because he once coached football at Columbia University), he was appointed to the post by Steve Jobs 17 years ago. Susan L. Wagner, founding partner and director of BlackRock, has joined the board.
“Over the past 17 years, it’s been exciting to watch history unfold as Apple emerged as the premier technology company in the world,” Campbell said. Wagner co-founded asset-management company, BlackRock, in 1988. Welcoming her appointment, Apple CEO Tim Cook noted her experience in mergers and acquisitions (as well as in developing markets) would be “extremely valuable” to the company.
