Handy short­cuts

To change the vol­ume with­out con­fir­ma­tion audio alerts (or with them, if you have de-se­lected the op­tion in Sys­tem Pref­er­ences), hold down ß when you press the vol­ume but­ton. To ad­just vol­ume in smaller in­cre­ments, press å+ß when you press the vol­ume but­ton.

To quickly search OS X’s Help, press ç+ß+/ and to launch an app with­out open­ing win­dows that were open when you closed it, hold down ß when you launch. para­graph’, ‘Go to be­gin­ning', and so on. That doesn’t mean you have to speak them like that, though. Dic­ta­tion is smart enough to un­der­stand nat­u­ral lan­guage, so you can say ‘Go to the be­gin­ning of the para­graph’, in­stead. It’s a small change, and some peo­ple pre­fer to use the ab­bre­vi­ated ver­sions, but it feels more nat­u­ral, and so makes us­ing Dic­ta­tion eas­ier.
