Cost Per Page
Watch out for expensive ink cartridges
The Canon MG2950 is the cheapest printer here, and its colour printing is quite reasonable at 5.3p per page. However, simple text printing is expensive at a hefty 3.8p per page.
The lowest cost for text printing comes from HP’s Envy 5640 and the Officejet 5740, at around 2.4p per page – although their 8.6p for colour printing is a little high for printers that only use four inks and is probably intended to steer you towards HP’s ‘instant ink’ subscription scheme instead.
The Canon MG6650 and Epson XP-620 use five inks to enhance quality, which bumps them up to 2.8p per page for mono and about 8.5p for colour. Finally, there’s the Epson XP-760, which adds a sixth ink, taking its running costs to 8.7p for colour. However, that may well be worth it if you want top quality photo prints. The XP-760 isn’t too bad for mono printing either, at 2.8p. Just remember that ink costs can vary enormously online.
