Is my battery fried?

Mac Format - - APPLE TALK -

My iPod touch is about nine months old and the battery life seems to be very short – mostly lasting no more than seven or eight hours. Is this normal? I’d like to get it replaced while it’s in warranty. Daniel Lawson

If you’re just playing music, with the screen brightness down, eight hours is very short. Even the firstgeneration iPod touch was rated for 22 hours of music, and newer ones play for 40 hours. Several things can eat into that. Non‑stop video will drain the battery in just seven hours and, games can be just as bad. Corrupted network settings can cause the iPod to waste power on unnecessary Wi-Fi traffic. If the battery lasts much longer with Airplane Mode on, back up and perform a factory restore to see if that helps.

Heat can permanently reduce a lithiumion battery’s capacity. Has your iPod ever been left in direct sunlight or a hot car?
