Why compensate with EQ when you can customise your earphones?
Earphones are still the most discreet way to enjoy music on the move and the T10 is are at the top end of RHA’s lineup, designed for those who don’t mind paying extra for fidelity and flexibility.
The first thing you notice is the beautiful packaging and array of accessories in the box. In addition to 10 pairs of different-sized ear tips in multiple materials and with a stainless steel holder, there’s a choice of three metal tuning filters, also in a special metal holder. These can be swapped for a more treble or bassheavy sound, or a neutral character.
The earphones are crafted from solid stainless steel and sit snugly inside your ear. The wires form flexible ear hooks which feel unusual at first but quickly become normal and help to hold the buds, which are a little heavier than you might be used to, in place. The cable is reinforced and has a very high-end feel, plus there’s a three-button remote and microphone for use with compatible Apple devices.
The default, ‘reference’ tuning filters offer a more neutral sound. To our ears these were a little bright in the mid range on some tracks. Switching to the bass filters and choosing a more isolating tip provided a weightier, more balanced sound that was expansive and rich. Having a choice of filters means not relying on a software equaliser to cope with different music, which is a very good thing.
These are serious and great-sounding earphones and the accessories that come with them add genuine flexibility. Hollin Jones
