Which of the apps is better?

Mac Format - - RATED -

The competition is fierce in this category. And no wonder. Good apps are a must for streaming services, otherwise users will simply totter off elsewhere.

Rdio’s Mac app is one of our favourites, as it has really easy navigation and flow to it. It’s what iTunes should be like. Deezer’s Mac app is in beta, but it’s also lovely and very well designed. It’s also small, so you can have it as a sidebar on your desktop, but it gives you access to all you need. The great thing about Spotify’s apps is that they’re feature packed. That’s really what wins the day for Spotify here – the playlisting is flexible, while sharing of music and playlists is also fantastic. As for the others, browser-based playback is the way of things on the Mac, so we looked at their iOS apps for this category.

It was difficult to pick out a bad app in the group. Playback is slick and instant for the most part (although understandably this isn’t quite the case for the CD-quality streaming offerings).
