Which is the best value for money?
With the free services, if you don’t mind ads, there are many options. All offer a top service – ads were the least annoying on Rdio. You need to go premium to stream on mobile, though.
It’s fairly difficult to assess which are better value for money in terms of the £10-a-month crowd, but we scored depending on the amount of platforms you could use your subscription on – after all, you can pay £10-a-month for Tidal, but there’s no specific Mac app so the experience isn’t as good as the Spotify, Rdio or Deezer options. Blinkbox may seem cheap for mobile access, but it might not be worth it – after all, if you want curated ‘radio stations’, you might as well use an app such as Tune In Radio.
We felt Google Play represented the best value, because you get so much for free. You can upload 50,000 of your own tracks – without ads. Finally, Deezer Elite is ahead of Tidal in terms of the cost of a CD-quality subscription, as it’s £15 instead of £20 a month.
With Spotify you will need to go premium to stream music on your mobile device.
