In FaceTime, no one can hear me scream

Mac Format - - APPLE TALK -

Q Since I updated to Yosemite 10.10.4, FaceTime seems to be broken. I can connect and receive video perfectly well, but there is no sound at the other end. I know the problem must be at my end because it doesn’t matter who I call, I can hear them but they can’t hear me. I have tried boosting the bass and treble using the Boom app but that (predictably) didn’t make any difference, so I uninstalled it. Ian Lacey A Aha! Did you, by any chance install Boom prior to the 10.10.4 update? Because Boom installs itself as an input source in the Sound preferences pane, which means that other apps will try to take their sound input from that, instead of the microphone on your Mac. If you uninstalled Boom by just dragging it to the Trash, you need to reinstall it and then uninstall it properly using the option in its preferences.
