Skipping iOS system updates
Q When a new version of iOS is released, my iPad automatically downloads it and gives me the option to install it ‘later’ or ‘now’. Can you skip an update altogether? I’d like the option to wait for a patch release and jump straight to that when iOS 9 comes out. Mark Tanner A You can’t stop the update from downloading but you aren’t required to install it, ever. Provided you can cope with the nagging red ‘1’ over the Settings icon, letting you know there’s an update waiting. There’s no way to get rid of this except by jailbreaking your iPad or installing the update. You’ll also lose a bit more space on your iPad, because the update file will sit there until you let it install.
