At the bot­tom of the iTunes Store app on your iPad, check that the Ap­ple ID is the same as the one that ap­pears when you click your name at the top of the iTunes win­dow on the MacBook. The bal­ance un­der­neath your Ap­ple ID there doesn’t up­date in real time. So if you leave that menu open and buy some­thing on your iPad, the ac­count bal­ance on the MacBook will stay the same. But re­open­ing it (or at worst sign­ing out of your Ap­ple ID and then in again) ought to sync them up. If not, call Ap­ple’s cus­tomer ser­vices be­cause some­thing has gone very wrong.
