2009 The first 27inch uni­body imac on sale

The uni­body iMac has be­come an icon of com­puter de­sign, but it wasn't al­ways so large. When the 27-inch iMac de­buted in 2009 it was seen by many as al­most ob­scenely over­sized. Fast for­ward to to­day and it's a firm favourite.

Ever since Ap­ple's in­cep­tion, desk­top com­put­ers were at the core of its busi­ness. But the iPad changed all that – when it out­sold Macs 4,190,000 to 3,890,000 in 2010, it marked a shift in sales in favour of iOS de­vices.
