Collaborative conundrums 1 Tracking changes

-

The ability to see what people have done to a doc is of limited use if anyone needs to work in a web browser; if Tracked Changes is on, collaborators on iOS and Mac can edit the doc, but anyone using iCloud.com can’t. Simply turn off Tracked Changes for a doc to make it editable in a browser once again.

2 Focus mode

Several people collaborating in real time can be distracting, so you can hide others’ activity to focus on your own work. Choose View > Hide Collaboration Activity on a Mac. At iCloud.com, turn on Hide Collaboration Activity in the sidebar. Distracting cursors are hidden, but changes still appear.

3 Nice threads

Collaborators’ comments appear instantly on shared docs and can be threaded to allow for conversation. People can edit or delete their own comments and replies, but not those of others. As the document’s owner, you can delete the entire conversation.

4 Lock ’em up

Unlike in Excel, you can’t lock individual cells in Numbers, which can be a problem with shared docs. A workaround in some cases is to move the cells you want to lock to a separate table, select that table, then choose Arrange > Lock.

?? ?? If the collaborative editing indicators become distracting, they’re easily hidden.
