MANDURAH Country Club will receive $130,000 from the Regional Grant Scheme for building refurbishment.

The club has more than 900 members, 15,000 non-member visitors and hosts many other community groups as well as state and national events.

The clubhouse is more than 50 years old with very little modernisation due to limited funds for the not-for-profit club.

Dawesville MLA Kim Hames said the funding would allow the club to upgrade to a standard that would continue to attract and promote state and national events and grow tourism in the region.

Events include the Australian Taxi Industry Golf event in May that will attract more than 150 people.

An Australian field will compete for the Mandurah Amateur Open and the Peel Easter Classic. Dr Hames said the funding would benefit the Peel Region with the increase in visitors.

The Regional Grants Scheme provides one-off grants to community, public and not-for-profit organisations to improve and develop infrastructure and services.

The scheme provides grants of between $50,000 and $300,000 to support region-specific projects.
