Man­durah hair­dressers win award

TWO young hair­dressers at a Smart Street Mall sa­lon have won awards in the In­ter­na­tional Hair­dress­ing So­ci­ety spring sum­mer com­pe­ti­tion.

Ju­nior ap­pren­tice of the year Jes­sica Atkins (19) also won awards for men’s and women’s hair cuts.

The Hey Good Look­ing ap­pren­tice, who was a stu­dent at Man­durah Catholic Col­lege, is in her third and fi­nal year and next year takes off for Cam­bo­dia with Hair Aid on a short trip to teach un­der­priv­i­leged peo­ple about hair cut­ting. She plans to start fundrais­ing af­ter the New Year to raise money to buy items such as combs and scis­sors to take with her.

Jes­sica hopes to be­come a stage artist, in­volved in hair­dress­ing dis­plays and demon­stra­tions.

For­mer Man­durah Se­nior Col­lege stu­dent Tay­lor Reid (23) won a swag of awards for cut­ting and styling and hopes to travel and one day own her own sa­lon.

Both stud­ied at Perth’s Tay­lor Weir Col­lege af­ter leav­ing school.
