Mother ‘numb’ af­ter the loss of one-year-old son

THE mother of a oneyear-old who died in Golden Bay said she is still com­ing to terms with the loss. Erica Leigh Lawrence’s son Nathaniel died on Septem­ber 30; he had only just turned one in Au­gust.

The in­fant suf­fered a brain bleed when he was six weeks old in Oc­to­ber 2017 and was not ex­pected to sur­vive.

How­ever, the lit­tle fighter pulled through and lived for more than a year.

“He was happy and had his own spe­cial per­son­al­ity,” Ms Lawrence said.

“He was such a sweet lit­tle boy.”

Ms Lawrence said Nathaniel’s death is still quite fresh.

“(I’m) numb and still com­ing to terms with him ac­tu­ally be­ing gone,” she said.

“I am bro­ken and shat­tered and my fam­ily are just the same, and we now have the hard­est part (of) try­ing to get a fu­neral to­gether.”
