POKÉMON GO MASTER GUIDE

Here’s how you catch ‘em all, YAKs!

Mania - - Kooka-saur -

START WITH PIKACHU

Did you know you can pick Pikachu as your starter? When Professor Willow offers you the three starter Pokémon, walk away from them with the app open. They’ll keep spawning. If you keep walking and ignoring them a Pikachu will eventually appear! Now catch it!

CHECK THEIR POTENTIAL!

When you level your Pokémon up, you’ll notice a white bar above them fills up. That’s their potential. Once they hit max, their CP won’t be able to go up! You’re better off levelling already high CP Pokémon. There’s no point wasting stardust and candy on a Pokémon that’ll max out at 400CP when you can catch the same Pokémon with 600CP in the wild.

PICK YOUR EEVEE EVOLUTION

Eevee’s evolution is normally random, but if you give it a certain nickname you’ll be able to pick what it evolves into!

NICKNAME

Sparky Rainer Pyro

EVOLUTION

Jolteon Vaporeon Flareon

LEGENDARY POKÉMON

Out of the original 151 Pokémon, you can only catch 145. Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Ditto can’t be caught in the wild, but they will be available to catch at some point! It looks like they’re triggered by events (kinda like how you can get legendary Pokémon in the 3DS games).

LEVEL UNLOCKS

The more levels you gain, the more AWSM items you can unlock! Here’s every Poké-item milestone.

STRONGEST POKEMON

Want to make an unstoppable team and rule as many gyms as possible? These are the strongest, non-legendary Pokémon you can get!

1) Dragonite 2) Snorlax 3) Lapras

4) Arcanine 5) Exeggutor 6) Vaporeon

REGION EXCLUSIVES

These Pokémon you won’t be able to find unless you’re in the right part of the world! Tauros - only in North America Mr. Mime - only in Europe Farfetch’d - only in Asia Kangaskhan - only in Australia Can’t afford to travel from France to Japan to the United States? Good news: You can still hatch them from eggs!

POKÉ-MYTHS

The following rumours are NOT true! Don’t get fooled, YAKs.

• You’ll pick up a missed Pokéball if you tap on it.

• Ghost Pokémon appear mostly around graveyards.

• Rustling grass means there’s a Pokémon there.

• Downloading Google Maps data will help save battery life.

GET MASSIVE XP

Really need to level up? Catch every Weedle, Caterpie and Pidgey you encounter. It only takes 12 candies to evolve these Pokémon, which is easily reachable considering you can catch them anywhere! That’s a neat 500XP every evolution – double if you have a Lucky Egg equipped!

GOTTA WALK ‘EM ALL

Travelling in a car, bus or train won’t help hatch your eggs. The game won’t count any steps if you’re travelling faster than 20km/h (even if you’re shaking your phone).

PLAN YOUR ROUTE

Before setting off on an adventure with your bros, figure out the best route so that you can hit maximum Pokéstops. You get 50XP for every Pokéstop you visit! That adds up, y’know!

Don’t use your thumb to throw Pokéballs! Use your index finger for better accuracy.

No one has seen it yet, but there are strong rumours that you can get a Master Ball. You’ll probably be limited to how many you can have – otherwise it’d ruin all the fun of catching Pokémon.
