MANIA: How did you get into competitive scooter riding? TAJ: “When I was five, there was a competition at The Bunker Indoor Skate Park and I decided to enter. It was the Australian Titles and back then you didn’t need to qualify. I competed in the Seven and Under category and came 3rd. I got a big trophy!” MANIA: What’s your favourite trick to perform? TAJ: “At the moment, it’s ‘Bar Double Whip’.” MANIA: What’s one trick that you spent ages trying to get right? TAJ: “Bri’s took a while. That’s when you flip the scooter deck over your head. I knocked my tooth out trying.” MANIA: What’s the hardest trick you’ve ever done? TAJ: “The bri whip. That’s when you combine a heel whip with a bri flip.” MANIA: Can you do a front flip or a back flip? TAJ: “I can front flip and back flip into the foam pit really well and can nearly front flip to resi (padded ramp).” MANIA: What’s the most amount of air you’ve gotten from a jump? TAJ: “About a metre high or higher over the coping, and I’ve held it for a few seconds.”

MANIA: What’s the secret to keeping your balance and not stacking it when you land a trick? TAJ: “I think the secret is to bend your knees when you first land, then straighten your legs and pop up tall as you roll away. You need good foot placement on the deck and a strong core too.” MANIA: What do you like to do when you’re not training or competing? TAJ: “Play soccer, ball sports, flip off anything I can find, go to the beach and water parks. I also watch scooter riding on YouTube.” MANIA: What type of scooter do you ride? TAJ: “I am a team rider for Grit Scooters Australia and I’m on the pro-amateur team. I ride a Grit Tremor Grom, with special battle bars cut down as small as they go, SES Clamp, and 110mm wheels.“ MANIA: What type of helmets and pads do you wear? TAJ: “I wear a bright blue S1 helmet and black 187 Junior Pro knee pads.” MANIA: If you could ride with any fictional character, who would it be and why? TAJ: “Michelangelo, the orange Ninja Turtle, because he rides a skateboard and I think he’s totally cool.”
