Sen­sors keep tabs on feral pigs

A PRO­GRAM de­signed to aeri­ally de­ploy ther­mal sen­sors to de­tect and count the feral pig pop­u­la­tion in Man­jimup and North­cliffe has been funded by the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment.

O’Con­nor MHR Rick Wil­son said it was im­por­tant to de­velop ef­fec­tive man­age­ment prac­tices to mon­i­tor feral pigs and the project would eval­u­ate the re­sults com­pared to tra­di­tional mon­i­tor­ing tech­niques.

It is one of 23 projects to re­ceive part of $10.5 mil­lion through the Con­trol Tools and Tech­nolo­gies for Es­tab­lished Pest An­i­mals and Weeds Com­pet­i­tive Grants Pro­gram.
