For­mer po­lice chief to talk ca­reer and com­mu­nity

FOR­MER WA Po­lice Com­mis­sioner Karl O’Cal­laghan will dis­cuss his ca­reer and com­mu­nity work at the Anne McKay ad­dress in the Man­jimup Town Hall next Tues­day from 5.30pm.

Dr O’Cal­laghan’s polic­ing ca­reer has en­com­passed po­lice com­mu­ni­ca­tions, com­mu­nity ed­u­ca­tion and roles at var­i­ous po­lice sta­tions.

At the ad­dress, he will speak about his polic­ing ca­reer and his other com­mu­nity work which has also in­volved fos­ter­ing chil­dren.

In 2010, Dr O’Cal­laghan formed Bright Blue, the Po­lice Com­mis­sioner’s Char­ity for Sick Kids, which has raised more than $1 mil­lion.

The char­ity pro­vides sup­port for chil­dren with Foetal Al­co­hol Spec­trum Dis­or­der, Neu­rob­las­toma re­search and plas­tic surgery for chil­dren in Mon­go­lia who have suf­fered burns dis­fig­ure­ment.

For his in­volve­ment with Bright Blue, Dr O’Cal­laghan was awarded the Aus­tralia Day WA Com­mu­nity Cit­i­zen of the Year Award for 2017.

Man­jimup Ro­tary Club sec­re­tary Rose Moyle said this was the fourth Anne McKay ad­dress held and the aim of the event was to host inspirational speak­ers to share their achieve­ments with younger peo­ple and in­ter­act and net­work with the com­mu­nity.

“The Anne McKay ad­dress is a great op­por­tu­nity for peo­ple to lis­ten to some­one who through hard work and de­ter­mi­na­tion has achieved great things and made such a pos­i­tive im­pact,” she said.

Mrs Moyle said she hoped it would in­spire oth­ers to fol­low their goals.
