Two in running for awards
THE Truffle Kerfuffle and Balingup Heights Hilltop Forest Cottages have been announced as finalists in the 2017 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards.
Finalists were announced on Thursday at an event in Perth with more than 150 tourism operators and industry representatives present.
Truffle Kerfuffle was named in the Festivals and Events category and Balingup Heights nominated in the Self Contained Accommodation category.
Gold medal recipients will be announced at a gala dinner on November 11 at Crown Perth and winners will go on to represent WA at the 2017 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Perth in early 2018.
Truffle Kerfuffle president Jeremy Beissel welcomed the announcement.
“It represents a significant achievement for hard-working committee and management teams that have helped grow and deliver the event since inauguration seven years ago,” he said.
“We’re in a strong category with many outstanding events and are so thrilled to be in contention.”
Mr Beissel added the community, truffle industry and local business’ support had been vital in making the event what it was.
“This event is really about pulling together to show the world outside the Southern Forests what we’ve got to offer,” he said.
Balingup Heights Hilltop Forest Cottages owner Brian and Deb Vanallen said it was the second time they had nominated for the award.
“We received the silver medal last year so we decided to try again and see how it goes,” Mr Vanallen said.
“We’re chuffed at the announcement and humbled to be nominated again, it’s a reward for all our hard work.
“It’s also great promotion for the Blackwood River Valley region, if more of us can be successful, it’s better for the region.”
