Bowlers focus on fun times
MANJIMUP’S bowls community started its season in perfect weather on Sunday.
The Manjimup Bowls Club held its season opener, the Balbarrup Farms mixed competition at the Manjimup Country Club at the weekend, with men and women taking part as a way to welcome in the season.
The club is undergoing some changes, as it welcomes a more social involvement and is implementing a change to the uniform. Men’s president Paul Wood said social bowls on Friday nights would be a way for people to play without the additional responsibility of competition against other clubs.
“As a social member, the only thing you can’t do is participate in club championships,” he said.
“The social bowls nights are for all ages, both men and women and we can help provide bowls – all people need are flat shoes.”
The bowls season is held from October through to next May.
“In addition to social bowls, we also have men and ladies’ competition,” women’s president Deb Hammer said.
“Ladies are on Thursdays for a 5pm arrival for a 5.30pm start.”
Wood and Hammer both said the club was looking for new members, of all ages, to get involved with the sport and the club. Call Hammer on 0419 905 075 for more information.
