Walk and talk for good cause
FITNESS and charity will come together on October 22 for the annual Walk for Cancer event.
Organised by a group of dedicated women, the 10km walk from Coles to Fonty’s Pool will raise money for Cancer Council WA.
Bad weather kept many people away last year and this year organisers are calling on the community to join them in the walk.
The event has been running for about 15 years and began with a walk from Northcliffe to Windy Harbour.
Co-organiser Tania Burford said the event was a fun and rewarding way to spend a day.
“It’s a nice walk in the country, Seven Day Road is a pretty area,” she said.
“It’s a lovely way to walk and talk with some wonderful people.”
Co-organiser Barbara Hunter said they were hoping to raise about $4000 for the Cancer Council.
“We normally get 80-120 people, so we hope there’s good weather to encourage more people to come along,” she said.
Mrs Hunter added her thanks to all the sponsors involved in the event for their ongoing support of the annual walk.
“The Rotary Club will be holding a sausage sizzle at Fonty’s Pool at the end of the walk,” she said.
Mrs Burford encouraged people to come along on the day dressed in pink.
Registrations open at 7.30am on October 22, entry is $10 and the walk begins at 8am.
