Starting the day on the right note
THE ticketed events for the Truffle Kerfuffle have always been a major drawcard for festival-goers and the breakfast being held by Scott Brannigan is no different.
Fremantle’s Bread in Common executive chef, Brannigan was last at the Truffle Kerfuffle about “three to four years ago” and he is looking forward to returning.
“It’s normally a very good event,” he said.
The Scott Brannigan Hunter’s Breakfast on June 23 is the first time he has done an event of its kind at the Truffle Kerfuffle and he said he was looking forward to incorporating local black truffle in his dishes.
The four-course breakfast will include ingredients such as raw cacao and truffle honey, potato and smoked trout and dishes such as French toast.
“The produce is good down here and we want to show off the ingredients on the plate,” Mr Brannigan said.
“You don’t need too much fluff, the food speaks for itself.”
The focus on truffles will extend to Bread in Common, where they will hold a truffle dinner this week.
Mr Brannigan said he was excited to return to the Truffle Kerfuffle and he made sure he was not booked up so he could attend.
“It’s a great honour to be selected to host an event during the Truffle Kerfuffle,” he said.
He said truffles were so special on the culinary scene because they had a short season and the fresher they were, the better they were.
“It’s grown in WA, which makes it better,” he said.
“Truffles are getting stronger on the culinary stage and they’re a luxury.”
In addition to hosting a breakfast on June 23, Mr Brannigan said he also hoped to attend a truffle hunt and maybe attend or hold a cooking demonstration.
“I’m pretty flexible if they want me to do a cooking demonstration, but if not, I’ll just continue enjoying the event,” he said.
Mr Brannigan also encouraged people who missed out on getting to his event, to look into getting tickets to someone else’s event.
“Sue Hutchins’ Sunday breakfast should be great,” he said.
“Her cheese from The Shadow Wine Bar, with truffle, will be a winner.”
Bread in Common's Scott Brannigan will hold a breakfast on June 23.
The Truffle Kerfuffle is a fun weekend at Fonty's Pool.
The marketplace marquee will be the place to find all manner of produce stalls.
