Card payment scam
Police have issued a warning to store owners and operators following attempts by scammers to purchase goods via fraudulent credit cards.
The scammers manually enter fraudulent credit card details into EFTPOS machines while distracting the cashier by pretending to pay using their phone.
Police have called it the “card not present” scam.
As a prevention measure, police recommend cashiers never hand EFTPOS machines over to customers to complete transactions.
Any information about this scam should be directed to Crime Stoppers on 131 444.
