Mayor attends community meeting

Mansfield Courier - - OPINIONS/PEOPLE -

MANSFIELD Shire Council mayor Paul Volkering, along with councillor for Jamieson Ward Harry Westendorp, joined in the Jamieson Community Group’s September meeting last week.

The Jamieson Community Group, which meets once per month, had another solid turnout to discuss upcoming events, the community’s wish list and residents’ concerns.

Cr Volkering said he was thrilled he made the trip out to Jamieson to see the community in action.

“It’s been really worthwhile,” Cr Volkering said.

“We’ve obviously gone through a pretty tough budget, but we can’t do certain things if we don’t know what’s going on out there.”

Cr Volkering said that he is trying to get out to as many community meetings as possible, to better work with them.

“We would like to be more responsive to the community,” Cr Volkering said.

“And if something doesn’t get done, keep knocking on the door.

“That’s what we’re responsible for, to work for the rate payers and to try and improve things as much as we can.”
