Mansfield Courier - - WHAT’S ON -

NOW is the time to stop the invasion of European wasps for the 2017-18 summer period.

September and early October is when the queen wasps search for new nesting sites – and this is also the best time to stop the spread of the wasps by catching and destroying those queens.

The Mansfield District Business Association (MDBA) is taking an active stand to help eradicate these pests.

Three workshops to show local residents and business operators on how to construct a Queen Wasp Trap will be held over Wednesday, September 20, Thursday, September 21 and at the Farmers’ Market on Saturday, September 23.

MDBA acting president Pam Zierk-Mahoney said “now is the time for all residents to take action to help eradicate these pests which increase in numbers later in the summer months – March and April”.

“The sooner these traps are hung in your garden, the more chances there are of catching those queens,” she said.

“Without a queen to lead a nest the breeding will cease.”

The workshops will be held in the courtyard of the Delatite Hotel – entrance through the side gate – and

The afternoon sessions will be held on Wednesday between 3pm and 6pm – business operators are encouraged to come along after hours, and on Thursday from 1pm to 3:30pm.
