Clay day and night shoots fire
THE Mansfield Clay Target Club night shoot was held earlier this month in calm and fine but very cold conditions.
Fortunately early in the day Anthony went to check all the equipment to find the generator was playing up.
Another stroke of luck came our way when a trailer generator was available at Mansfield Hire.
Anthony, Ken and the Desmond brothers put in a huge effort to ensure the event proceeded as planned.
The evening brought out a field of 25 shooters, many of who stayed in town and re-attended the day shoot the following morning.
This shoot was generously sponsored by Les Comensoli from Cohuna CTC.
Although not a local member, Les stated in the presentations the reason for his sponsorship was the friendliness of Mansfield club and also the support the club provides to junior shooters, who are sponsored every shoot for competition fees.
Competitors from other neighbouring clubs included Alexandra, Benalla, Euroa, Woods Point, Bendigo, Wangaratta, Melbourne, Cohuna and Frankston.
Two events were on the fixture: the first the 75 Target Night Champion of Champions.
25 Double Barrel, 25 Single Barrel, 25 Points score, all shot off 18 metres, resulting in a maximum potential score of 125.
This was also a designated state title.
After the squads rotated through the first 50 targets the second rotation delivered the following results.
AA Grade and Overall: Craig Henwood from Melbourne, 120/125, Fred Heinze, Bendigo 115.
A Grade: Sponsor, Les Comensoli 109, Daniel Chinn, Woods Point 96.
B Grade was a Mansfield clean sweep; Marty McLachlan, Mansfield 95, Shawntie Coolahan 92.
C Grade: Patrick Kirley, Mansfield 97 and Louise Tingate from Frankston 85.
The next event was a 15 pair Double Rise Championship (targets thrown as pairs).
For most this was a first during a night event.
AA Grade and overall: Mick Ward, Woods Point CTC 23, Anthony Kirley, Mansfield 23.
A Grade: Matt Tingate, Frankston 22, David Luelf, Mansfield 21.
B Grade went to a shoot off with Marty McLachlan, Mansfield 20/40. Anthony Armstrong, Woods Point 17/40.
Overall lady and junior shooter went to Slap Comensoli and overall veteran David Luelf.
The following morning it was back into competition with a beautiful calm day and another challenging program.
Those who returned from the previous evening were joined by several others boosting the competitor numbers to 35 over six squads.
The day was a three event program 40 mixed targets, 30 target continental graded cash divide and 15 target tower.
The first event commenced with five pair double rise followed by 10 double barrel, 10 single barrel and 10 continental.

A lunch break followed with all competitors and visitors partaking in a hearty feast of home-made soup provided by Aileen and a choice of casseroles from Pam Kirley.
The sun was shining and everyone was ready for the second event of the day.
Continental involves targets pre- sented randomly both vertically and horizontally and at faster than normal speed.
After 30 targets two shooters came home clean.
AA Grade shooter: Anthony Rohrlach from Euroa and A Grade from Alexandra, Geoff McClure.
B grade was shared between Rob Glossip, Wangaratta and Marty McLachlan both 24.

C grade was decided by a shoot off with Lachlan McDonald from Euroa victorious 20/21 over Marty McLachlan 19/21.
Over the Sunday program Slap Comensoli took out the ladies and junior prize.
Local shooter Denny Walker has been putting i n some consistent performances resulting in him being promoted from C to B Grade. Well done Denny. Special thanks to attending shooters and family members who participated with scoring and generally helping out to ensure a successful day.
Co-ordinating the shoot and results, Shawntie and Aileen ran the office and delivered two smooth back to back programs.
