State-wide bushfire mapping and policy revised
BEFORE we know it bushfire season will be upon us.
Many Mansfield Shire property owners know only too well the potential impacts of bushfire having lived through many seasons of extended dry weather and extreme temperatures.
A state-wide planning scheme amendment introduced on Tuesday, October 3 has revised the bushfire mapping used for the assessment of planning applications.
The revised Bushfire Management Overlay (BMO) mapping incorporates new science around bushfire behaviour to come out of the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission with a more comprehensive approach to bushfire risk management.
If you are interested to hear more about the new mapping and learn about fire behaviour and how you can prepare, Mansfield Shire Council will be holding two public information evenings next week with guest speakers.
Kevin Hazell, a recognised bushfire management specialist who was instrumental in the introduction of the BMO into the planning system, will be speaking about bushfires and the BMO, and Glenn Cockram from the CFA will be speaking about how you can prepare your property in the event of fire.
The first meeting will be at the Jamieson Town Hall from 6:30-8pm on Tuesday, October 10 and the second meeting at the Mansfield Shire Council offices in Highett Street (corner of Curia Street) in the council chambers from 6:30-8pm on Wednesday, October 11.
