Despite Buchanan’s efforts, Greta pass Delatite under 14s
ON a stunning Saturday morning Delatite set about defending its 115 runs in search of our first win of the season.
Unfortunately for the Delatite opening bowlers Greta’s opening batsmen were in one-day mode and scored quickly in the first 10 overs to be none for 63.
Nathan Buchanan broke the opening partnership in his third over taking two quick wickets finishing with the terrific figures of four overs, one maiden, two wickets for 12 runs.
The Greta batsmen, however, continued to score freely after losing a couple of wickets and were able to surpass Delatite’s overnight score before the drinks break.
After the drinks break and wanting to improve on their first 22 overs the boys were able to get the ball in the right area and take some much-needed wickets including the Berry brothers of Trent and Jake taking five of the nine wickets for the day
Trent Berry finished with figures of two wickets for 10 runs off his two overs with Jake taking three wickets for two runs off his two overs after relinquishing the keeper’s gloves to Luke Berriman.
Berriman took two catches behind the stumps in his stint as keeper.
Greta decided to declare at 9/165 giving Delatite the opportunity to allow our boys who missed out on a bat the week before to go out and have some fun.
Nathan Buchanan scored 14 not out including three fours and seemed to relish not having the pressure of opening the innings as he has done in previous weeks.
Charlie Christopher also finished not out on seven and looks to be growing in confidence each week.
The game between Delatite CC and Greta CC club was played in tremendous spirit culminating with both teams lining up on the ground at 11am for a minute’s silence to honour Remembrance Day with all parents and team officials also taking part. Lest we forget. Man of the match goes to Nathan Buchanan for a terrific innings opening last week.
Despite not scoring he did his job as opener taking the shine off the ball for the following batsmen and also took the first two crucial wickets for Delatite CC when it looked like the Greta opening batsmen were going to win the match off their own bats.
