Road safety in focus

Maroochy Weekly - - NEWS -

AS THE officer in charge of the Maroochydore Police Division, I would like to remind all motorists to take care when using our roads, especially during Road Safety Week, which commences statewide on August 21.

The community’s safety is our priority and police will continue to target the Fatal Five: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, driving while fatigued and driving distracted.

Get involved by attending an event or hosting an activity, go to the Join the Drive website jointhedrive.qld.gov.au.

Too many drivers are being distracted by things like mobile phones, complex sound systems, on-board DVD players and satellite navigation, to name a few.

The message is clear. If motorists continue to make poor choices, then they should expect a fine and a loss of demerit points. — Senior Sergeant Scott Nolan
