Changing lives with your ‘yelp’
IF YOU thought naming a family pet was hard, spare a thought for Guide Dogs Australia who have to name litters of dogs every year.
So they want your help to name one of their newest recruits.
Across Australia, Battery World has made a commitment to support and raise money for Guide Dogs Australia with all stores, including Battery World Caloundra and Maroochydore, taking part in a national ‘name the puppy competition’.
Franchisee David Thomas said for a $2 donation, customers could put their suggested dog name on a label in store that will then go into a national draw.
“At the end of the day, whether you pick Rover or Ruby, it’s a terrific opportunity to get behind a great cause,” David said.
Glen Bracegirdle wasn’t surprised to learn his guide dog Bronny’s name means blessed, as the two have forged a bond of friendship and caring.
Glen, 32, was born with a pigment disease, albinism, that affected his sight and credits Bronny with saving his life countless times as well as allowing him to live a more independent life.
“She’s my best friend, I trust her more than I trust most people,” he said.
The national dog-naming competition closes on October 21.
