Do you know someone making a difference?
NOMINATE A HERO
THE curtain may have fallen on our major footy codes for this year but council is still kicking goals. We’ve now secured four AFL clubs for training camps ahead of next season, with Carlton the latest to commit to the Coast.
The Blues will be here in mid-December for a week of training, with a community open session still to be confirmed. Premiers Richmond, the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne will also head here for pre-season training camps before next year’s the season.
It’s not just our fantastic facilities at Fisherman’s Rd and wonderful weather that’s bringing them back. The last five teams who’ve won the AFL premiership visited the Sunshine Coast for a pre-season camp.
NRL and Super Rugby will also hit Sunshine Coast Stadium in February, with three fantastic pre-season games locked in. The ACT Brumbies will play the Chiefs from New Zealand on February 14, while the Bulldogs will meet the Raiders in an NRL trial on Saturday, February 17 and the Gold Coast Titans will clash with the Warriors the following Saturday on February 24.
What an awesome triple-header. Tickets will go on sale in early December via sunshinecoaststadium.
NEXT year we’ll celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards. If you know a person, community group or organisation making a difference to life on the Coast, give them the recognition they deserve by nominating them for an award. You don’t have to be famous to be nominated for our Australia Day Awards, we’re looking for the unsung heroes. Nominations close December 4 and you can nominate online via council’s website.
