Funding for commemorations
MEMBER for Fisher Andrew Wallace marked the anniversary of the Battle of Beersheba by calling for applications for a Federal Armistice Day Centenary Grant.
Mr Wallace, who visited the site of the Battle of Beersheba in Israel in July, said that $50,000 was available in grant funding for community commemorations to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the World War I.
“It was a moving experience for me this year to stand at the site of the Battle of Beersheba and reflect on the sacrifice of the Australians who served there with such honour.” Mr Wallace said.
“While we remember Beersheba today, next year all Australians will pause and reflect on the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
“I encourage groups on the Sunshine Coast to apply for funding under the Armistice Centenary Grants Program to mark this important milestone in Australia’s history.”
Interested organisations should contact Mr Wallace’s office on 5493 5556 or email andrew.wallace.mp@ aph.gov.au to request an expression of interest form. Mr Wallace’s office is accepting expressions of interest from today and these must be submitted by Tuesday, November 21.
“Grants from $3000 to $50,000 are available to support your ideas to commemorate the end of the First World War in our community,” Mr Wallace said.
