WEL­COME to Coun­try per­for­mances, sem­i­nars, art ex­hi­bi­tions, a coastal walk and bush tucker in­fused morn­ing teas at coun­cil’s Sun­shine Coast Li­brary branches are just some of the cel­e­bra­tions planned to cel­e­brate Na­tional Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion Week from May 27-June 3.

The theme for Na­tional Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion Week 2018 is Don’t Keep His­tory a Mys­tery and is an op­por­tu­nity to ex­plore our past, learn more about Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Is­lan­der his­to­ries and cul­tures, and de­velop a deeper un­der­stand­ing of our na­tional story.

Com­mu­nity Port­fo­lio Coun­cil­lor Jenny McKay said through the Sun­shine Coast Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion Ac­tion Plan 2017-2019, coun­cil is a proud sup­porter of a range of Na­tional Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion Week events hap­pen­ing across the re­gion.

“The re­gion’s RAP high­lights the im­por­tant role our Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Is­lan­der com­mu­ni­ties play in the so­cial, eco­nomic and cul­tural growth of our Sun­shine Coast re­gion,” Cr McKay said.

“The up­com­ing Na­tional Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion Week events will have a range of ac­tiv­i­ties de­signed to pro­vide a deeper un­der­stand­ing of our lo­cal sto­ries and I en­cour­age every­one to get in­volved.”

Davis will be on dis­play at Ma­roochy­dore Li­brary from May 21-July 7.

His­tory a Mys­tery, coun­cil’s li­braries will host a free screen­ing of the ex­tra­or­di­nary doc­u­men­tary

Zach’s Cer­e­mony at Ma­jes­tic Cinemas Nam­bour from 5.30-7.30pm on Wed­nes­day, May 30.

This fea­ture-length film was cap­tured over 10 years and shows one boy’s jour­ney to man­hood in a com­plex, emo­tion­ally driven story.

The com­mu­nity can also at­tend a Mabo Day ora­tion by Aunty Gail Mabo, led by the Mur­ris on the Move, on May 28 at the Univer­sity of the Sun­shine Coast.

His­tory ses­sion on May 24 and peo­ple can reg­is­ter to at­tend their Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion
