THE latest crime stats are out for the Coast, and it makes grim reading.
Since 2015 assault is up 44 per cent, serious assault up 49 per cent, robbery up 79 per cent, armed robbery up 51 per cent, unlawful entry up 21 per cent, unlawful use of a motor vehicle up 47 per cent, fraud up 58 per cent, and DV order breaches up 51 per cent.
Our police do an incredible job, but they’re under-resourced and overstretched under this State Government.
One only has to look at the increased rate of ice use in our community, which has a direct link to these criminal networks.
We know when there is increased drug dependency, crime rates go up.
It’s not the Coast I grew up in, and residents deserve better than to live in fear in their own homes.
Governments’ first priority should be the safety of the Queensland public.
It’s time the State Government got tough on crime and equipped our police with the resources and funding they need to protect our community.
