Thump­ing win keeps rel­e­ga­tion at bay

HEATH­COTE Bowls Club’s di­vi­sion six team recorded a huge 44-shot win over Kan­ga­roo Flat on the week­end in a big boost to the side’s chances of avoid­ing rel­e­ga­tion.

Heath­cote sits in eighth spot on the lad­der and now has a slight buf­fer be­tween it and ninth-placed North Bendigo and bot­tom side Kan­ga­roo Flat.

Di­vi­sion six: Heath­cote 112 de­feated Kan­ga­roo Flat 68.

Neville Smith made a slow start and was down by eight shots af­ter 12 ends. For­tu­nately Neville’s team won the next four ends and the last two to draw the game.

Keith Brown had an even game with scores level on the 7th, 9th, 13th and 24th ends. Keith’s team scored two shots on the last end to win by those two shots.

Basil Kapoulitsa made an even start and led by a shot af­ter the 12th end. Basil’s team slowly drew away and de­spite los­ing the last end went on to record a five-shot win.

Ray Anderson lost the first end but then won the next nine to lead by 21 shots. Ray’s team kept up the pres­sure, los­ing only three more ends to have a huge 37-shot win.

Heatch­cote’s di­vi­sion three side trav­elled to Bendigo East need­ing to win but were soundly de­feated by 33 shots.

The loss leaves the side in sixth spot, three games out of the top four.

Deryl’s team then shared the shots and ends and held onto record a nine-shot win.

Greg Speirs made an even start with scores level on the 10th, 14th and 16th ends. Greg’s team took con­trol, los­ing only three more ends and won by 10 shots.

Brian Tay­lor made a slow start and by the 12th end trailed by six shots. Brian’s team only won two more ends and went on to lose by 21 shots.

Bill Gar­diner made a poor start, los­ing the first 10 ends to trail by 19 shots. De­spite their best ef­fort, Bill’s team were un­able to make any head­way and lost by 31 shots. Week­end Pen­nant Teams Di­vi­sion 3: Heath­cote vs. Kan­ga­roo Flat at Heath­cote.

C Cail 33 de­feated Y Ruther­ford 23 R Craig 13 lost to G Judd 31 E O’Brien 25 de­feated J Judd 15 Chris Cail started with five shots on the first end but by the 13th end scores were level. Chris’ team fin­ished well, win­ning seven of the last nine ends to record a 10-shot win.

Rae Craig started slowly and by the 15th end was down by 15 shots. De­spite scor­ing four shots on the 22nd, Rae’s team went down by 18 shots.

Eileen O’Brien made an even start with scores level on the 9th and 17th ends. Eileen’s team then took con­trol and af­ter scor­ing two shots on last end won by 10 shots.
