Bowls finals dream falls flat
THE finals hopes of Heathcote’s division three bowls team are over following a 42-shot defeat at the hands of bottom side Kangaroo Flat.
Division 3: Heathcote 78 lost to Kangaroo Flat 120. Bill Gardiner 23 lost to F Nolan 29 Greg Speirs 20 lost to P Fasoli 33 Deryl Binney 13 lost to I Martin 28 Brian Taylor 22 lost to A Mills 30 Bill Gardiner made a slow start and trailed by seven shots after 14 ends. Shots and ends were then shared but Bill’s team could not make up the lead and went down by six shots.
Greg Speirs made an even start and by the 15th end Heathcote was down by only two shots. Greg’s team then struggled winning only two more ends to lose by 13 shots.
Deryl Binney lost the first five ends and by the 13th end was down by 14 shots. Despite winning seven of the remaining 12 ends, Deryl’s team lost by 15 shots.
Bill Gardiner made a poor start and by the 13th end trailed by 12 shots. Bill’s team lifted but the lead was too big and they finally lost by just six shots.
Heathcote’s division six travelled to Campbells Creek needing another win but were soundly beaten by 35 shots.

Peter Cunningham 29 defeated I Morelli 13 Ray Anderson 15 lost to I Brooks 46 Basil Kapoulitsa lost the first five ends and was down by 15 shots after 10 ends. Basil’s team then took control losing only four more ends but went down by only four shots.
Keith Brown made a slow start and trailed by 15 shots after 13 ends. Shots and ends were then shared but Keith’s team lost the last two ends to eventually go down by 16 shots.
Peter Cunningham made a good start and led by 11 shots by the 12th end. Peter’s team kept up the good form losing only six more ends and went on to win by 16 shots.
Ray Anderson after an even start then struggled and was down by 14 shots by the 13th end. Despite the best efforts by Ray’s team, they lost the last two ends to lose by 31 shots. Weekend Pennant Teams Division three: Heathcote vs White Hills at Heathcote

Social bowls: On Wednesday February 1, 20 players enjoyed three games of pairs in fine and cool weather conditions. The winners were Greg Speirs (s) and Ken Reader (2 wins, 1 draw, 39 points, +12 shots). Runners-up were Eileen O’Brien (s) and Ellis Knight (2 wins, 35 points, +26 shots) from Smokey Dawson (s) and Alan Perry (2 wins, 31 points, +4 shots). The jackpot was not won and will be $90 today (Wednesday February 8).
D M Binney Memorial Triples Tournament:
On Sunday in sometimes rainy conditions, 12 teams played four games of 10 ends in the Commercial Hotel sponsored D M Binney Memorial Triples Tournament.
At the end of play two teams had won the four games and in a thrilling three-end playoff Bill Gardiner’s team defeated Peter Cunningham’s team 3-0.
The winning team was Bill Gardiner (s), Brian Taylor and Smokey Dawson. Runners-up were Peter Cunningham (s), Rod Hanson and Frank Dimauro. Coming Events: Today: Mixed social bowls at 1pm. Tomorrow: Committee meeting at 7pm.
