Bowls fi­nals dream falls flat

THE fi­nals hopes of Heath­cote’s di­vi­sion three bowls team are over fol­low­ing a 42-shot de­feat at the hands of bot­tom side Kan­ga­roo Flat.

Di­vi­sion 3: Heath­cote 78 lost to Kan­ga­roo Flat 120. Bill Gar­diner 23 lost to F Nolan 29 Greg Speirs 20 lost to P Fa­soli 33 Deryl Bin­ney 13 lost to I Martin 28 Brian Tay­lor 22 lost to A Mills 30 Bill Gar­diner made a slow start and trailed by seven shots af­ter 14 ends. Shots and ends were then shared but Bill’s team could not make up the lead and went down by six shots.

Greg Speirs made an even start and by the 15th end Heath­cote was down by only two shots. Greg’s team then strug­gled win­ning only two more ends to lose by 13 shots.

Deryl Bin­ney lost the first five ends and by the 13th end was down by 14 shots. De­spite win­ning seven of the re­main­ing 12 ends, Deryl’s team lost by 15 shots.

Bill Gar­diner made a poor start and by the 13th end trailed by 12 shots. Bill’s team lifted but the lead was too big and they fi­nally lost by just six shots.

Heath­cote’s di­vi­sion six trav­elled to Camp­bells Creek need­ing an­other win but were soundly beaten by 35 shots.

Di­vi­sion six: Heath­cote 83 lost to Camp­bells Creek 118.

Basil Kapoulitsa 23 lost to F Allen 27

Keith Brown 16 lost to B Ross 32

Peter Cun­ning­ham 29 de­feated I Morelli 13 Ray An­der­son 15 lost to I Brooks 46 Basil Kapoulitsa lost the first five ends and was down by 15 shots af­ter 10 ends. Basil’s team then took con­trol los­ing only four more ends but went down by only four shots.

Keith Brown made a slow start and trailed by 15 shots af­ter 13 ends. Shots and ends were then shared but Keith’s team lost the last two ends to even­tu­ally go down by 16 shots.

Peter Cun­ning­ham made a good start and led by 11 shots by the 12th end. Peter’s team kept up the good form los­ing only six more ends and went on to win by 16 shots.

Ray An­der­son af­ter an even start then strug­gled and was down by 14 shots by the 13th end. De­spite the best ef­forts by Ray’s team, they lost the last two ends to lose by 31 shots. Week­end Pen­nant Teams Di­vi­sion three: Heath­cote vs White Hills at Heath­cote

So­cial bowls: On Wed­nes­day Fe­bru­ary 1, 20 play­ers en­joyed three games of pairs in fine and cool weather con­di­tions. The win­ners were Greg Speirs (s) and Ken Reader (2 wins, 1 draw, 39 points, +12 shots). Run­ners-up were Eileen O’Brien (s) and El­lis Knight (2 wins, 35 points, +26 shots) from Smokey Daw­son (s) and Alan Perry (2 wins, 31 points, +4 shots). The jack­pot was not won and will be $90 to­day (Wed­nes­day Fe­bru­ary 8).

D M Bin­ney Me­mo­rial Triples Tour­na­ment:

On Sun­day in some­times rainy con­di­tions, 12 teams played four games of 10 ends in the Com­mer­cial Ho­tel sponsored D M Bin­ney Me­mo­rial Triples Tour­na­ment.

At the end of play two teams had won the four games and in a thrilling three-end play­off Bill Gar­diner’s team de­feated Peter Cun­ning­ham’s team 3-0.

The win­ning team was Bill Gar­diner (s), Brian Tay­lor and Smokey Daw­son. Run­ners-up were Peter Cun­ning­ham (s), Rod Han­son and Frank Di­mauro. Com­ing Events: To­day: Mixed so­cial bowls at 1pm. To­mor­row: Com­mit­tee meet­ing at 7pm.
