Gas works set
Construction to start in town
NATURAL gas is one step closer for Heathcote.
Construction of the gas receiving station has begun with network construction due to start next week.
Project director Todd Henderson said the distributor, Enwave Victorian Networks, will start the construction of the gas network within the streets of Heathcote from late February.
‘‘Crews will be visible in town,’’ he said.
‘‘Residents will be notified a week prior, via a letter drop, as to when crews will commence in their street.
‘‘This is an exciting and important step in bringing the benefits of natural gas to the community of Heathcote.’’
Construction of the receiving station at the end of Depot Rd is progressing with civil works under way.
This station is where natural gas will be stored safely in compressed form before it is automatically decompressed and supplied into a conventional gas distribution network for supply to customers.
‘‘Enwave is committed to delivering natural gas to Heathcote as soon as practicable and is anticipating customers will be able to connect in the second quarter of 2017,’’ Mr Henderson said.
A town community forum will take place closer to that time enabling Enwave and Tas Gas Retail to inform residents of the status of the project and how they can apply for connection to the network.
Residents should await notification from Tas Gas Retail prior to committing to appliance purchases or conversion work.
Residents and businesses wanting more information or to express their interest for a natural gas connection can contact Tas Gas Retail on 1800 760 771.
