Council to advertise CEO role

McIvor Times - - NEWS -

CITY of Greater Bendigo mayor Margaret O’Rourke has advised that councillors intend to advertise the position of Chief Executive Officer of the City of Greater Bendigo.

A formal decision to advertise the role will be made at the council meeting today.

Current chief executive Craig Niemann’s contract is due to expire in December this year.

Cr O’Rourke said councillors want to ensure the posi- tion is subject to a competitive recruitment process.

“This is both sound business practice and in line with community expectations,” she said.

“Our community plan outlines our desire to lead and govern for all, demonstrate transparency and accountability and explain the reasons for our decisions.

“Our intention to advertise the position is by no means a reflection on past performance. Councillors fully sup- port the CEO and encourage him to reapply for the position.

Mr Niemann said he respected the Councillors’ intention to advertise the position.

“I believe that I have served the council, the organisation and the community well over the past 10 years,” he said.

“I am proud of my achievements during my time in the role and I am also very proud of the staff that work for the city delivering great services to the community.”
