Four arrests in police blitz

McIvor Times - - NEWS -

IN AN effort to crack down on crime, police in the area launched Operation Hallmark, which ran for two days.

Operation Hallmark had a focus on highvolume crime and was aimed at reducing arrest warrants across not only the Mitchell area, but also in Shepparton and Benalla.

Police had a highly visible presence in the community and targeted hot spots for burglaries and vehicle crime in order to arrest recidivist offenders and deter further offending.

During the operation, Seymour police worked closely with detectives, crime scene officers, intelligence officers and Highway Patrol members to affect four arrests, 254 breath tests and three vehicle defect notices while they also targeted hot crime areas.

Senior Sergeant Della Nihill said the operation was a huge success due to the great work of police and they looked forward to more operations of this type being held across the shire.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Maher said removing recidivist offenders from the community was a primary focus for police during this operation.

‘‘We want people in the community to know police are actively out there targeting those who are prepared to commit these types of offences,’’ Det Sen Sgt Maher said.

‘‘This type of behaviour simply isn’t acceptable and we will continue to run these types of operations in an effort to deter criminals in the local area.’’

Police carried out 254 breath tests.
