Heathcote Primary picks up bikes and trailer

McIvor Times - - NEWS -

HEATHCOTE Primary School has a new bike trailer.

The easy-tow trailers were brought through the Bendigo Bank’s community grants scheme.

Within the grant, the school also got 14 new bikes and helmets.

Along with the grant, local businesses such as Mitre 10 and Morgan’s Smash Repairs donated storage boxes and painted the trailer respectively.

The bikes will also be used for the community on weekends.

Community Bank secretary Hannah Thomson said it was a great initiative for the Heathcote community.

‘‘The bikes will be available at a price, and all money will be donated back into the school’s bike education program and the maintenance of the bikes,’’ she said.

They will be available from the Heathcote Information Centre, for a different view of Heathcote.

The community grants program is an annual program, and any community group can apply. The money comes from all the profits made in the local community banks over the 12-month period.

School principal Kate Ballantyne said the bike education program was valuable for the students. ‘‘It teaches them to keep mobile and active,’’ she said.

The Official Bike Trailer Launch will be held at the school on Monday, October 16 at 10am.
