Call to shape town plan

RESIDENTS are invited to come along and have their say on issues in the area at this week’s ‘community plan’ meetings.

As the current community plan is due to expire, the Advance Heathcote committee is working with council to develop a plan to help shape Heathcote for the next three years.

The sessions will give residents the opportunity to have their say on what the Heathcote community needs.

Advance Heathcote president Peter Maine said community input is vital to the creation of the plan.

“Having a formalised plan means council can fix the issues affecting residents, it helps identify what’s important to the people of Heathcote,” Mr Maine said.

“The key thing is we have a clear and workable plan to present to City of Greater Bendigo.

‘‘This lets us secure funding in the budget for community projects.

“We hear anecdotally what people want changed but this gives everyone the chance to raise an issue they feel is important in a formal way.

“It could be anything from street lighting to footpaths and gardens.”

Mr Maine said while the committee has a range of issues they feel are important to the town, community input is needed to develop the ideas further.

“We’re calling for new issues,’’ he said.

‘‘We’ll be presenting our accomplishments from the current plan and identifying issues we feel are important, but we need people to have their say.

“The committee needs to see who’s serious about what, and residents have the opportunity to put anything forward.

“We can achieve what people ask for, we just need it to be formalised so we can ask for it to be included in the budget.”

The community plan meetings will be held on Tuesday, October 17 at 2pm and 6pm at Barrack Reserve.
