Who will follow in fireys’ footsteps?
JANUARY 26 is a day to recognise residents and community groups who have done outstanding work in our community.
The Australia Day committee is once again preparing festivities for the day but they need your help to find a recipient for next year’s McIvor Community Award.
Everyone has the chance to share in the celebrations and what it means to be an Australian.
It’s also a great opportunity for the town to come together and support the nominees for the awards.
Co-ordinator Jeanette Dedman said it’s important to recognise the efforts of people in the Heathcote community.
‘‘The Heathcote CFA were last year’s award recipient and it was rightly deserving for all the support and protection they provide to Heathcote and the surrounding area at any time of the day or night,’’ Mrs Dedman said.
‘‘One of the qualities that makes Australia strong is the active roll the community takes in creating the Australian identity.
‘‘With this in mind, we are looking for the general public to nominate a person or a community not-for-profit club to recognise their contribution and commitment to our town.’’
Community groups can now be nominated by a member of that group, so it’s up to everyone to think about your club or someone in your neighbourhood.
There are many people in our community who have worked tirelessly for many years without any accolades, so why not nominate them?
The awards ceremony will take place at Barrack Reserve on Australia Day 2018.
Nomination forms are available at the council office, post office, Heathcote Community House and Bendigo Bank.
The closing date for nominations is Wednesday, December 13.
