McIvor Times - - THE SAINTS ARCHIVES -

HEATHCOTE Golf Club had a busy week of action with the ladies and men playing various competitions.

The ladies played a stableford event on Saturday which formed one round of the Summer Championships.

Sue Green must be inspired by this trophy event as she has now won it twice from as many starts. Sue’s 34 points secured her the victory with Jan Cases 32 securing her runner-up spot via a countback from Helen Carlin. It was nice to see Jan back in fine form.

The Summer Championship leaders at present are: Dot Trott 130pts, Carol Stuart 128, Margaret Sims 127 and Helen Carlin 124. A titanic struggle is ensuing for the last two rounds.

A group of 22 men teed off for the Monthly Medal and final round of the Summer Cup.

Daniel Pianta had an excellent round of 75-5-70 to be the division one and medal winner. Ron Blachford had a good day, taking out division two with 102-31-71.

Ball winners were Kris Mueck 70, Terry Shiels 73, Adrian King 73 and Greg Long 74. Adrian King added to his golf ball collection taking out NTPs on both the 13th and 16th holes.

At the 18th hole Kris Mueck won the A grade NTP and Bryce Pianta was closest in B grade. Garry Boyes retained his “Mr President” title but added the less flattering NAGA label by virtue of his 111-24-87.

Congratulations to Gerard Ellis for his win in the Summer Cup with three good rounds for a total score of 207! Sportscover Vic Junior Masters: The Sportscover Vic Junior Masters was played over 72 holes at Churchill and Waverly Golf Clubs late last month.

Heathcote Golf Club’s Molly McLean played outstandingly to place first in the Under 12 girls nett and second in the Under 12 gross behind a girl from Singapore off a +1 handicap.

In the overall event contested by 55 girls up to the Under 16 class, Molly finished 37th in the gross and a very creditable 16th in the nett.

Molly hasn’t even turned 12 yet and is already playing off a Golf Australia handicap of 8.5.

She certainly is shaping up to be a very scary competitor! Wednesday January 31: Nine ladies played a stableford round on a cool and very windy morning. Lynne Fouracre made fair weather of the conditions, compiling one of her best competition rounds at Heathcote. The field was no match for Lynnes consummate 40 pts and despite Dawn Hudsons return to form scoring a solid 34 pts, she was forced to settle for second place.
